It was just announced, and the 23-year-old forward couldn’t be happier, as he looks forward to linking up with one of the top strikers around in Luis Suarez. Leaving Chelsea won’t be a problem for him as his time playing has been limited due to the formation Chelsea play and their insistence of staying with Torres in spite of his lack in form.

“I am humbled and happy to be here,” said Sturridge.

“Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time – and I also see myself here for a long time. I’ve not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.

“I’ve signed to be here for as long as possible. It’s a humongous club – for me, one of the biggest in the world – and to have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing.”

Brendan Rodgers had been targeting a number of forward players and is delighted to be bringing in a proven goal scorer who is still very young and can develop and is also a recognized England International. It fits into the new Liverpool policy of bringing in the top young talent around and preferably English talent.
