In the most dramatic result of the weekend, Manchester City went down 3-1 to lowly Southampton. In an unbelievably poor performance capped by a massive error by goal-keeper Joe Hart and an inexplicable own goal by Gareth Barry. The result according to manager Roberto Mancini leaves city with only a 10% chance of retaining the title, while he also claimed it to be their worse performance in three years. The win does wonders for Southampton as they 4 points clear of the relegation zone.

With knowledge of Man City’s loss, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United put in a solid professional performance against Everton. United put in the right amount of effort needed to get the result with goals coming from Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie. The win puts United an incredible 12 points clear and puts the title within touching distance.

Top four challengers Spurs maintain their push for a champions league spot with an impressive win over Newcastle with Gareth Bale leading the charge. Bale continues to be in fantastic form, scoring both goals in the 2-1 win. Bale has now scored the last four Spurs goals in the EPL and it improves Spurs streak to 10 games undefeated.

Other top four challengers Chelsea and Arsenal both got wins to maintain their push fir Champions league positions. Chelsea cruised to a 4-1 win over Wigan with Frank Lampard again getting on the scoresheet. The win eases pressure on manager Rafael Benitez, with rumours that he would be sacked if they had lost, swirling around. The loss keeps Wigan in the relegation zone.

Arsenal got a hard fought win over a stubborn and determined Sunderland side with their goal coming from Spaniard Santi Carzola. The win moves Arsenal up to 4th, four points behind north London rivals Spurs.

Swansea got back to winning ways with an emphatic 4-1 win over QPR. The result puts a severe dent into QPR’s hopes of survival and keeps them rooted to the bottom of the league. Other relegation strugglers Aston Villa picked up a massive boost to their survival hopes as they picked up a 2-1 win over West Ham.

Elsewhere; Norwich and Fulham play to an uninspired 0-0 draw as both teams are sliding in the wrong direction. While Stoke get back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Reading, ending Readings current undefeated streak.

With 12 games remaining, the top, middle and relegation Zone in the EPL is falling into place. With Manchester United having a 12 point lead it looks like the trophies staying in Manchester.
