Norway through to the Women’s Euro 2013 final 0

Denmark were beaten 4-2 on penalties on Thursday following the 1-1 draw against Norway.   Ingvild Stensland’s ball ended up in the back of the net after only three minutes, after the first corner kick brushed off Marit Christensen.

Gradually Denmark gained the upper hand in a very tight game, but despite their dominance, Norway were able to counter quickly and Ada Hegerberg only just shaved the top of the crossbar after thirty minutes.

In the second half Denmark enjoyed long periods of possession, but they had difficulty converting it into a goal.  However, Norway looked like they had done just enough to get through to the final, when Mariann Knudsen’s header from Pernille Harder’s free kick equalised the game.

After extra-time, even after Denmark dominated through-out, the game ended up in a penalty shoot-out.  The Norwegian goalkeeper was the hero after saving the first two spot-kicks, while all four of Norway’s penalties were successful.

Norway will play Germany on Sunday which will be played in Stockholm at the Friends Arena.
