As he seemed be the second choice of  José Mourinho after Gonzalo Higuain , Karim Benzema has struggled to take off and has seen the Argentine striker steal the limelight and favors of the Special One. But the French striker has finally launched its season and appears poised to reclaim the space that was his the entire last season.

Despite his hat-trick yesterday against Ajax Amsterdam (4-1), it is not to Cristiano Ronaldo  that the Spanish newspapers Marca has dedicated its front page, but to Karim Benzema. Nicknamed “Mr. Wonder” of the Champions League, the French international scored his 27th goal yesterday in 45 appearances in the most prestigious European competition. Statistics which provide a quasi-systematic starting role in C1, especially when compared to those of Gonzalo Higuain, unable to score more than 7 goals in 40 matches in the Champions League!

But beyond these statistical considerations, it is also in the game where the French impresses.  Aware of the different profiles of the two strikers,Karim Benzema and  Gonzalo Higuain,  Mourinho claims to have a “need of both” but appreciate the style and versatility of Benzema. “He’s like a fish in water. Sometimes I do use him as a  No. 9, sometimes as a No 10. He is a player of movement with a good footballing integration. ‘

Involved in three of the four goals of his team yesterday, the former Lyon striker has scored a goal especially amazing.
